Key players in the seed sector
Seed breeders
Starting point of the sector, they create new varieties, producing the first generations of seeds.
Seed producers
They produce seeds, usually contracting-out to seed breeders, and subsequently sort, process, package and commercialize them.
Seed growers
They produce the seeds in their fields with seeds provided by the seed producers.
Distributors
They sell the seeds to farmers and other users.
End-user farmers
From purchased seeds, they produce plants for human or animal consumption, or for industrial use.
Industrial users
They transform some of the agricultural production to make other products such as wheat, sugar, pasta, pet food, fabric, fuel, etc.
