Communicating to a Wide Audience
The communication of the Gnis is naturally aimed at seed users (farmers, growers… or home gardeners) and those who advise them.
But today, more and more people feel they have a legitimate stake in production methods, preservation of the environment, health and food, that is why the Gnis needs to enlarge its communication.
Elected Representatives
French elected representatives have to deal with a worried public opinion towards scientific changes and new technologies.
In the meantime, they must supervise changes linked to food and environment. The Gnis is communicating with them regularly on what is at stake in the decisions they have to make.
Farming Experts
The type of activity given by farming experts has been changing: largely technical for decades, it is now more and more about economics, regulations and administration. The Gnis has taken into consideration these new needs informing farming experts on economical and legal aspects, expanding that communiation to management centers.
Teachers
The Gnis has been communicating with teachers for a long time, on three levels:
- in kindergarten and primary schools, through the programs "Let's do Gardening at School " and "A Week of Gardening for Schools ".
- in agricultural colleges, with specific pedagogical materiel and support for teachers.
- in universities and research institutes, with support in plant breeding, biotechnology and seed sector (from the technical point of view, but also exploring economic and regulatory aspects and future trends).
Distribution Networks
Distributors and their sales force need specific materiel for seed sales. The Gnis develops sales brochures and special events for sales managers and their teams.
Home Gardeners
Information campaigns for home gardeners take into account the evolving aspirations of gardeners, concerning turf grass and vegetable species.
General Public
Public opinion is faced with a huge amount of media controversy on the environment, the role of agriculture and the organization of the economy.
The Gnis works to clarify at least some of the issues brought up by associations and the media.
Other Countries
International trade has become more and more important for the seed sector. France, the world's 2nd biggest seed exporter, is very well-placed but is facing fierce competition. Reinforcing the sector's image abroad, the Gnis promotes French know-how, the excellent performance of French varieties and the high quality of French seeds. The Gnis also promotes the required organisation for the seed sector at regional and national level ( variety registration, seed control and certification, and in particular variety protection).
The Gnis organizes, or participates in, seminars, trade missions, training sessions, consultancy work and sets up joint actions with official and private foreign experts.
