Gnis Sections
The sections, specialized by product, are in the heart of the Gnis life.
The section councils which administer them bring together 20 to 40 members appointed for 3 years on proposition of the most representative professional bodies.
Section Councils
These represent all the professions of the sector: breeders, seed producers, distributors, growers, end-user farmers and ( in certain cases ) industrial transformers of agricultural produce.
To run the councils and conduct the activities decided on, each Section has a Secretary.
A Gnis Section is:
◊ A platform for dialogue between the different families of the Gnis
• Dialogue on the management of the sector and discussion or even negotiations on the economic and technical conditions for seed production in the framework of growing contracts.
• Dialogue between the seed production sector and buyers ( end-use farmers ) on the commercialization of the products ( quality, packaging, delivery periods, etc. )
All of these discussions may result in the signing of inter- professional agreements.
◊ A platform for dialogue between the Sector and Public Authorities
Essentially a dialogue on the evolution of regulations. It can take the form of opinions given to French or European authorities on proposed changes, or the Gnis can approach the authorities with propositions for modifications to be considered and approved by the public authorities.
◊ A platform for reflection and the elaboration of collective policies to develop the sector
• Policies to improve seed production techniques.
• Communication to encourage product development.
• Communication to explain the organization of the sector and the regulatory framework.
For this work to succeed, the participation of the professionals is essential. This participation is effective through numerous commissions and work groups which, led by the Section Secretary, discuss thoroughly the possibilities, put the work in action and evaluate the results.
